New intro and thesis

It would seems I started going about this essay a little wrong.
I have slightly changed the organization and flow of my entire paper by changing my thesis. In addition to this the introduction needed to be changed to match the new thesis and the original intro had a lot wrong with it.
So here is the new introduction complete with new thesis action and all.

I paticularly find the idea of culture and subculture to be interesting. By extension of my interests in socialogy I find the social constructs and culture of the virtual community of secondlife intruiging. In Secondlife a whole world of people, places and activities exists. With such a realistic playground for people all around the world it is only natural for culture and subculture to exist within the community. The subcultures within the world in paticular are numerous and varying. Furthermore within the virtual world, each subculture is represented by a virtual group that community members can join. Whithin secondlife the subcultures can be divided into three categories that each subculture falls into at least one of; these categories are appearance based subcultures, replaying subcultures, and personal interest based subcultures.

Introduction

This post is for my introduction to my essay on subcultures.

Subcultures in second life are just as diverse as they are in reality, The same people who are part of subcultures in real life, and even some who have nothing to do with the subculture, participate in subcultures in secondlife. The subculture can range from realistic ones just like in everyday life to strange ones that could not exist in real life. Subcultures in second life can even be similar to roleplaying, in that the avatar can become a character that the person is not in reality. I chose this topic because I am very interested in subcultures, virtual or not. Learning about new social constructs is fascinating to me. Cross dressers, homosexuals, furries and role players atively exist as flourishing subcultures in second life.

This and my thesis are subject to revision but this at least will guide me through the rest of my research and writing.

Personal appearance essay

This was the first essay done for this class and it revolved around the personal appearance our avatar in sl. When starting out in secondlife there is a limited selection of premade avatar so you really feel the need to make the avatar yours by changing the appearance. We were given 300 in second life money to shop and change out appearance and then told to write about the experience. In addition we wrote about why we chose the make out avatar look this way.
In the picture up top, the second one from the left was the avatar i started with
I changed the appearance quite a few times
Here is the first incarnation when i thought the avatar was finished but the found more stuff to change.
And this was me in my new jacket and playing with cool hair. I had also change some physical attributes from the first one.

And this is a picture of my avatar now, now more changes have been done. Though I suspect it will take on drastic changes for this next essay.

Thesis statement on subcultures

This blog is for my composition II class. Hopefully I can keep up with it as blogging doesn't seem to agree with me to to well but I will have to post assignments.
Well anyways, to the main event. Here is my thesis statement for my first short essay in comp II. Research is being done in secondlife on subcultures to complete the full essay.

Thesis: Cross dressers, homosexuals, furries and role players atively exist as flourishing subcultures in second life.

I will explore the subcultures listed above and then write about them for the purpose of this essay. I even will join one of the subculture. As this point I'm thinking I might like to look into joining some kind of group of cross dressers. Androgyny has always fascinated me.

Well look back later for more. I think I will post the details and photos of my personal appearance essay.
